Contemporary Design

These designs are those that push the limits of design. The main purpose for designing such boats is to push the envelope and provide new, exciting and purpose driven designs to the public.

Each design will be shown on its own page so that the illustrations can be shown at a larger size. All of the designs can be built, are safe and will provide a high degree of both usefulness and enjoyment.

To view a design, click on the illustration itself and a page with more illustrations will appear. If interested in one of the designs or to e-mail a comment use jimb@jimbackus.us to send your message.

30' Shore boat designed for use as a mega yacht transport boat or as a transporter in such places as Fort Lauderdale. The design has four to six seats (Ricaro) and is intended to transport people to vessels, restaurants and shopping with direct access to water.

The design has a head onboard, is air conditioned and heated and can carry travel luggage. Sliding glass doors access outside.

32' Fishing Boat

32' Sport fishing boat with a difference. The design uses two large outboards that are attached to the sides of the hull thereby keeping the transom of the boat clear for fishing. The hull form is similar to standard fishing boats below the waterline while the props are in hard water for added efficiency. Engines are equipped with the long shaft option to keep the props deep. Steering is done with throttles and/or joy sticks.

Ski Boat
Ski boat of any size with a new concept in boarding. The sides of the hull/deck aft have been designed to permit boarding so the swimmer does not have to swim near the engine lower unit to board. There are two versions to this design shown in the following page. Note that the stern drive unit has a sun bathing area on centerline and port and starboard steps to move safely to the cockpit.
